What is it in each of us that causes us to fall so easily, into the trap of jealousy? As we watch someone else being blessed, deep in our hearts we feel rejected. Cain and Abel make a willing sacrifice. Each of them offer something precious and only one of them received a blessing. The other was dismissed. Why would a father choose one son’s sacrifice over another? All of us, at one time or another, have felt the grips of jealousy deep in our hearts. Jealousy seizes all that fall into it. It could cause one man to lie. It could lead another to murder. It tells us that we are not good enough. It tells us that we are not loved. It can lead us down a destructive path of sin. Jealousy will cry to us in the secret places of our hearts, and speak darkness into our minds. Cain and Abel were each loved equally by their father. Abel’s sacrifice was one made from a pure heart, which is why his was accepted. It is not what we do that pleases God. It is the nature of our hearts when we do it. No matter what you are doing, God cares more about your heart, than your actions. No matter what you choose, he will always be with you.
“So Cain left the Lord’s presence and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden”
